Outline of new Beichuan Reconstruction

May 12, 2008, Beichuan turned into ruins during the massive earthquake. One month later, experts made a conclusion that the old county seat was on the fault line and was too dangerous to rebuild at the same place.

November, 2008, the State Council approved to rebuild another Beichuan at Anchang town, about a 30-minute bus ride, or 23 kilometers from Beichuan old county.

May 12, 2009, the construction of Beichuan Middle School officially kicked off the whole project. The construction team from Shandong Province started to build apartment buildings one month later.

September 2010, four schools and two kindergartens opened for students.

December 2010, new Beichuan almost finished its reconstruction and was handed to Beichuan people.

January 2011, most Beichuan people moved into their new apartments after living in board houses for almost three years.

February 1, 2011, the new Beichuan held a ceremony for its official opening.
