The Fujian provincial government recently announced plans to invest 12 billion yuan in six key tourism projects in 2011.

The six key projects — upgrading A-level scenic spots and star hotels, developing coastal areas and hotspring travel, rural travel, and cultural travel — involve 354 programs.

The upgrading work will have an annual budget of 951 million yuan and involves 211 programs. It is expected that construction will be completed on 100 public toilets, 31 tourist service centers and 47 parking lots. The government aims to add eight to 10 4A- or 5A-level scenic spots to the province's portfolio.
