The smiling Buddha sculpture

A unique Buddha sculpture with mysterious smile was found in the storeroom of the Zhucheng Museum, Shandong Province, according to local media the Shandong Business Daily on Thursday.

Staff members of the museum said the two-ton stone Buddha head, dating back to the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-589), was first unearthed 1979 together with a well-reserved, beautifully-curved stele and then was put away in the storeroom due to a limited exhibition area.

The sculpture is 132 cm in height, 78 cm in width and 79 cm in thickness.
