China's southern Yunnan province is well-known as a tourist destination for its subtropical landscapes and the mysterious legends of the local Bai nationality. Among the many handicrafts that the Bai people inherited from their forefathers, tie-dye fabrics, or coloring cloths, have been turned into one of the most profitable businesses. In the Xizhou old town, which has recently been established as a tourist destination, locals traditionally made their living by producing colored clothes through ancient tie-dyeing techniques. In this group of photos, CRI reporters visiting Xizhou take us to a family workshop to see how the workers there transform white fabrics into flamboyant cloth.
