Tourism authorities yesterday warned people not to travel to flood-hit areas in Thailand, while border authorities said Thailand-bound tourist volume has plunged over the past 10 days.

Shanghai Tourism Administration warned people to avoid Bangkok and other flooded areas. People already in the areas are advised to leave as soon as possible.

The administration, however, did not instruct travel agencies to stop organizing trips to Thailand.

Officials said if visitors experience an emergency in Thailand, they should call the Chinese embassy for help on 66-854833327.

There are 797 Shanghai tourists in 39 travel groups in Thailand.

Border police said the number of tourists traveling to Thailand in the past 10 days is 39 percent lower than those who traveled during the same period last year.
