The Qiang Nationality is one of the oldest nationalities in the world. Both the Han Nationality and the Tibetan Nationality are developed from the Qiang Nationality.

The Qiang ethnic minority lives mainly in the counties of the Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Sichuan Province. Maowen Qiang Autonomous County is the largest area that is home to the Qiang. The Qiang have a profound history of over 3,000 years as evidenced by inscriptions on oracle bones. According to a census in 2000, the Qiang have a population of 306,072.

The Qiang has its unique customs and culture. The Qiang people are versatile. They create folk stories expressed through music. The Qiang people dress themselves simply but beautifully.

The Qiang people live in granite stone houses, a kind of building as high as 10 -30 meters (33 - 98 feet), generally consisting of two to three stories.
