Visitors who drive on the Zhangbei Grassland Highway, or known as the Grass Skyline, on the outskirts of the city of Zhangjiakou in north China's Hebei province are now being charged 50 yuan for the experience.

Built in 2012, the 132-kilometer stretch of road is renowned for its intoxicating scenery.

However, it remained a local secret until 2014 when photos showcasing the beauty along the highway went viral.

The photographs prompted an estimated 220,000 tourists to drive the Zhangbei Grassland Highway that year alone.
