Greenland Premier Kim Kielsen issued a warm welcome to Chinese tourists to enjoy a brand new experience of the island’s unique natural and human environment.

He was speaking at a “Greenland Day” session held at the Danish Embassy in Beijing on Oct. 31, 2017.

The premier was on his first visit to China, accompanied by three cabinet ministers and representatives from major enterprises in Greenland. Through vivid presentations, they offered a comprehensive picture of the autonomous constituent country within the Kingdom of Denmark.

In Greenland, a pure and peaceful country where the environment offers contrasts from north to south and from east to west, one can take a breath of cool air, drink fresh, pure water and explore the Big Arctic Five (dog sledding, northern lights, ice&snow, pioneering people and whales), according to Ms. Tanny Por, the international relations manager of Visit Greenland.

The world’s largest island is becoming increasingly available to Chinese tourists as some new international airports are on the drawing board and port facilities are being improved to provide more effective disembarkation for cruise liners.

With a coastline of 44,087 kilometers, Greenland also boasts abundant fish resources. Fishing is Greenland’s most important industry, accounting for over 90 percent of the country’s export value. The Greenland government attaches great importance to fishing-related business cooperation with China, carefully monitoring fish resources to ensure stable exports to a potentially large market.

Sealskin products are another symbol of Greenland. The Inuit people native to the island hunt seals for their meat, and their fur is gathered to produce sealskin garments and accessories. An exclusive show was held during Tuesday’s event to showcase this unique Greenland fashion.
