In addition to diaolou, or multi-story watchtowers and ancient village clusters, Jiangmen has plenty of islands, a long coastline and hot spring resources that have great potential for tourism development, she added.

Diaoloubuilt by overseas Chinese during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) and Minguo period (1911-49) are structures blending Chinese and western styles that have now been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Meanwhile Jiangmen, located in the western part of the Pearl River delta, is the birthplace of wing chun, a Chinese martial art that is popular in South China and abroad. It is estimated that more than 50 million people worldwide practice wing chun.

More than 2,000 tourists from the Hong Kong special administrative region toured Jiangmen on Oct 23, the first day the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge started service.
