UK band 6ix Toys to play at UK Pavilion

Liverpool based funk band 6ix Toys will perform at the UK Pavilion on October 15 before joining the celebrations on Liverpool Pavilion National Day (October 16). Their performance will be part of the UK's Programme of Events at Shanghai World Expo. The programme is a chance to showcase UK culture and creativity on the international stage and to demonstrate the UK's collaboration with China across an impressive and broad range of areas.
6ix Toys have earned a reputation for brilliant and entertaining live shows. Described by renowned BBC radio DJ Craig Charles as 'One of the hottest funk outfits in the UK today', their recordings have been played by everyone from DJ Food to Laurent Garnier. Their self-titled debut album, which features guest vocalists Yarah Bravo (DJ Vadim, One Self), Connie Lush (five times UK Blues Singer of the Year) and Katie Miller (Diesler Live Experience), has received airplay in the UK on Jazz FM and BBC Radio 1.
Following sold out shows across Europe including Isle of Wight, V Festivals and The Garden Festival (Croatia), and sharing the stage with acts such as Sting, Ms Dynamite, Pendulum, Alice Russell and Youngblood Brass Band, 6ix Toys are now bringing their rocket-fuelled funk to the UK Pavilion for one night only on October 15th. Comprising a horn section, scratching, drums and guitars, 6ix Toys will also be performing with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and electronic pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark as part of the Liverpool Day programme on October 16th.
Shanghai World Expo runs from 1 May – 31 October 2010 and the British Council has programmed entertainment on behalf of the UK Expo team 7 days a week for its duration. The Programme of Events reflects the UK's regional and national excellence and diversity in arts, business, culture, sports, science and education. Much of the daily programming has concentrated on original and inventive comedy performance designed to engage audiences of all ages, drawing on the UK's great tradition of theatre and on the current international reputation of UK's artists and performers for inventive and crowd-pleasing work.
Groups of performers from all parts of the UK including Central Saint Martins and Scottish contemporary dancers Janis Claxton and Alan Grieg as well as street theatre and comedy performers including Mischief la Bas and the Natural Theatre Company have been entertaining visitors to the site since May.
The innovative and unusual UK Pavilion is designed by Thomas Heatherwick. At the centre of the site is the Seed Cathedral – a building 20 metres in height, formed from 60,000 slender transparent fibre optic rods, each 7.5 metres long and each encasing one or more seeds at its tip from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew's Millennium Seed Bank partnership, given by Kew's Chinese partner Kunming Institute of Botany. As the wind moves past, the building and its optic "hairs" gently move to create a dynamic effect. The 'Seed Cathedral' is set in a park-like space that provides an area of rest, relaxation and entertainment for visitors to the Expo.
