Inside look of the Olympic homestay courtyard

This gallery shows the traditonal house of Zhu Baohua, which is located at No. 39 at Nanguanfang Hutong, Shichahai Area in downtown Beijing (什刹海南官房胡同39号朱宝华家). Zhu, in his fifties, was among 598 Beijing homeowners selected as an Olympic host by the city tourism administration this April. Photo by Long Bang on July 25, 2008.
 

The "Olympic homestays" program, which was created in April, offers foreign visitors a chance to experience Beijing citizens' real lives by paying some 60-120 US dollars per night. Zhu's house was bought by his family in the early 1900s. In 2004, he spent more than 4 million yuan (US$579,710) on renovations: "westernizing" the toilet, installing air conditioning and high-definition televisions. Read more......
