Locals take morning exercise at the east gate of Shouxian County, a famous historic and cultural site in east China's Anhui Province, on Aug. 18, 2009. Shouxian County, renowned for its ancient city-wall built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) with a perimeter of 7,147 meters. The local government has decided to move out half of the some 120,000 population living in the Shouxian County, which covers an area of 3.65-square km, to the newly-built town in five years to preserve the ancient county. Since 2008, constructing projects of commercial housing in the ancient county have been stopped and the use of some authorized lands in the ancient county will be clarified after a regulation on mapping out the overall plan for the development of the ancient county is made known in the future. The local government has also started a remedy project to repair the ancient residential houses, ancient trading companies and former residences of famous people. [Xinhua/Tao Ming]
