APTN reporter said "Before I came here, I really suspected that it's really heavily polluted here, very smoggy. But when I arrived, I found things are much better than expected."

The city's new public transportation system is also providing a lot of convenience to journalists pouring in from around the world.

Frainces Amy Cordaro, Australian reporter said "The transportation here has been wonderful. And it's very easy to go around the city via the Olympic special lane."

The Beijing Municipal government began working on a determined campaign to improve air quality, back in 1998. Since then, more than 140 billion yuan, or some 20 billion US dollars, has been invested in this long-term project. Organizers say they are confident that the air quality during the games will be above standards set by the World Health Organization.
