Mrs. Joy Bryer, Co-Founder and Secretary General of EUYO
She hoped that by listening to an orchestra made up of young musicians from many different countries, people will achieve a new understanding of peace and harmony in the world.
To conclude their momentous tour, the Orchestra will perform Mahler’s life-affirming ‘Resurrection’ Symphony, conducted by their world-famous music director, Vladimir Ashkenazy.
Vladimir Ashkenazy has helped inspire and develop a whole generation of young musicians through his long standing relationship with the EUYO.
He said: “I absolutely love working with this orchestra – they are young and vibrant and enthusiastic, but at the same time entirely professional. Taking the rostrum with the EUYO this summer will no doubt prove to be yet another very rewarding experience.”
The European Union Youth Orchestra was founded in 1978 by the International Youth Foundation of Great Britain. Its purpose is to provide professional development experience for young orchestral musicians.
This summer, the talented young musicians rehearsed and performed in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, before setting off on a tour of Japan, Korea and China.
This year’s tour is supported by the European Union program “Support for Bodies Active at European Level in the Field of Culture”.
