In the women's Javelin F42-46, Chinese athlete Yao Juan won China's first track and field medal with a throw of 40.51 meters and a new world record.

In the men's handspike F55/56, Cuba athlete Leonardo Diaz also broke the world record with a throw of 40.87 meters.

And more records were broken at the Water Cube.

In the men's 50 Meter Backstroke S5, Brazilian Daniel Dias broke Chinese He Junquan's world record with a time of 36.46 seconds. But that record only stood for a few minutes, being broken again by He Junquan' 35.04 seconds in the second heat.

But there's more than just surprise and excitement at the Paralympics.

In Monday's Table Tennis F5, 54 year-old Italian Maria Nardelli defeated her American opponent in a delicately-decorated wheelchair. Her tenaciousness and optimism inspired many spectators.
