The Biennale reflects on the socio-economic and cultural significance of urbanization. The focus is not restricted to local concerns. Its scope encompasses matters of global import, such as migration and identity. The works look at spatial and social boundaries between the rural and urban populations, migrants and citizens, guests and hosts. It questions whether fruitful interaction is possible among the diverse groups. Can cities help people to enjoy better lives? The works on display explore these questions.
