The China Fashion Awards, in its eighth year, gave its first recognition to leaders in sports, in celebration of the Beijing Olympics. All-round gymnastics gold medalist Yang Wei was named the recipient of the award for setting the trend in sports. 200-meter butterfly gold medal winner Liu Zige won the breakthrough award in the sports category.

Veteran actress Qin Yi was honoured for her charity work in the devastated areas of Sichuan following last May's earthquake. Hongkong actor Michael Miu Kiu Wai and actress Catherina Yim, were named as classic screen stars for their roles as hero and heroine on television.
