Taiwan leader meets ARATS chairman

The Chairman of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits or ARATS, Chen Yunlin, has met with Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou.

The meeting began at 11 A-M this morning at a hotel in Taipei. Officials of ARATS' Taiwan counterpart, the Straits Exchange Foundation or SEF, were also present.

Ma Ying-jeou reviewed the development of exchanges between the organizations during the past years. He called this week's first-ever ARATS-SEF meeting in Taipei significant. Ma and Chen spoke together for five minutes, and also exchanged gifts.
