UN warns of Gaza food shortage
Adjust font size:

A UN Relief and Works Agency warns there may not be enough supplies of food for the 750-thousand people in Gaza after Israel sealed their border.

The closure is a response to ongoing rocket and mortar fire from Gaza. Israel will only allow small quantities of food aid to cross the border.

About 80 percent of Gaza's 1.4 million residents depend on this aid. The only power plant in Gaza is offline because Israel is not allowing fuel shipments.

This cuts electricity for much of the city. The Israeli actions come after militants fired at least eight rockets and mortars at Israel on Thursday.

Both sides say they want to maintain calm, but developments on the ground are pushing them in the other direction.
