The unseasonable spring snow fall caught the country's Alpine region by surprise.

Residents thinking about a game of golf were reaching instead for their skis and snowboards.

Plows were back out clearing the roads months after the official snow season had ended. In the Blue Mountains, a light dusting of snow also brought residents out onto the streets.

One local resident woke up to an avalanche of tiles falling on his chest, after a tree crashed into his house.

The weekend cold snap also brought strong rainfall to southeastern Australia.
