In the United States, the President-elect has announced a plan to create at least 2.5 million new jobs for the country by 2011. 

Barack Obama says the scheme includes the largest infrastructure investment since the 1950s as well as a huge effort to cut energy use by the government. Obama has promised to move quickly to pull the US economy out of a recession which could push unemployment above eight percent by late next year.
