The bride and groom would be asked to bite an apple, and their friends and family members would get them to kiss on the wedding.

In the 70s, the marital picture was rather simple. The bride didn't need to wear make up and there was no wedding dress. In the 80s, the bride would typically wear a western wedding garment, while the bridegroom wore a suit. Though the dress was not silk or chiffon and the bouquet was plastic, it was thought to be the most fashionable wedding costume in China.

Besides the banquet, getting the newly weds to perform became a new trend during that time. The bride and groom would be asked to bite an apple and their friends and family members would get them to kiss before the assembled crowd.
