One of China's most prestigious modern dancers and choreographers - Jin Xing - has set out to prove that a modern dance version of the 'Peony Pavilion' can still be suitable for a modern audience.

Honored as the Chinese Isadora Duncan and as the founder of modern dance in China, Jin Xing is a transformational female artist. She has contributed greatly to the development of Chinese dance. Back in 1999, she established the Jin Xing Dance Theatre in Beijing. One year later, she relocated the group to Shanghai.

The Dance Theatre was the first private dancing group in China. Although its style is from the West, the performances at the theatre depict profound Chinese culture and traditions.

A famous European commentator once wrote that "A dancing artist from the Orient pointed the way for us, when we didn't know where and how to develop our modern dancing".

Although Peony Pavilion will only be performed over the weekend, Jin Xing continues to indicate the direction of Chinese modern dance with her new play.
