DPRK says truce is dead
Adjust font size:

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea says it will no longer honor the armistice agreement ending the 1950-53 Korean War. The move is seen as a strong protest over South Korea's participation in the Proliferation Security Initiative, or PSI.

Pyongyang considers Seoul's participation as a declaration of war. The DPRK has issued a statement saying it won't guarantee the security of US and South Korean warships and civilian ships in the sea west of the country. Pyongyang has also threatened to respond with military action if South Korea tries to stop or search any of its ships. Seoul announced it would join the US-led non-proliferation campaign on Tuesday, a day after the DPRK declared it conducted a nuclear test. The PSI is aimed at stopping the trafficking of weapons of mass destruction.

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reports the DPRK has test-launched five missiles since its claim of a second nuclear test on Monday.
