Multiple blasts kill at least 95 in Baghdad
Adjust font size:

A series of explosions in Baghdad have killed at least 95 people and wounded more than 400. The attacks appeared to have targeted government and commercial buildings.

It was the deadliest day in the capital so far this year and marked a major challenge to Iraqi control of Baghdad.

There has been steady escalation of attacks following the June 30th withdrawal of US troops from cities. The violence heightens fears that government troops are not ready to provide security.

A Sunni politician condemned the wave of blasts.

Falah Hassan Zeidan, Sunni Pilitician, said, "We condemn these terrorist acts. We would like to send condolences to the relatives of our martyrs and wish a quick recovery to those that were injured. I demand that parliamentarians hold an emergency session to tackle this situation."
