Hurricane Bill hits Canada's Atlantic coastline
Adjust font size:

Hurricane Bill has made landfall in both the US and Canada. It has killed one person and left several people missing in the US. In Canada, it has brought heavy rain, wind and waves to the eastern part of the country.

On Saturday, the hurricane was blamed for the death of a 54-year-old swimmer in the US state of Florida. And in Maine on Sunday, a large wave fueled by Hurricane Bill swept spectators out to sea at a park. The Coast Guard says a man, a woman and a seven-year-old girl were pulled from the sea near Acadia National Park.

Rescue crews continued to search for others believed to be lost in the waves. While in Canada, the Category one storm caused minimum damage as it moved northeast toward the region's offshore oil and gas facilities on Sunday. Meanwhile, the storm knocked out power to more than 23, 000 homes and businesses in the southern province of Nova Scotia.
