The participants are not mindless of the news that the Dalai Lama is heading to Taiwan at the invitation of the Democratic Progressive Party. And some question the motives.

Master Xinmao, from Kaohsiung County Buddhist Association, said, "The timing is not right ... it's not appropriate."

In Taiwan's worst-hit area, Kaohsiung County, people may have different religious affiliations, but on this day, their representatives have stood united to show that common aspirations are the most important consideration of all.
