Belgian dairy farmers spill milk in price protest
Adjust font size:

Belgian dairy farmers dumped three million litres of fresh milk onto fields in the southern part of the country, as part of a protest over low prices.

Milk farmers say prices dropped so low they had to sell products at half their production cost, leaving increasing numbers of farmers unable to pay their bills.

Farmers driving 300 tractors and milk containers sprayed milk across fields - the spillage representing the loss of a day's worth of production.

Milk prices have fallen by 40 percent since spring. EU farmers group, Copa warns that without EU intervention, farmers could lose about 10 billion euros in income.
