For Sunday's one-year anniversary celebration, Taipei University Hospital delivered a special present -- a faultage scanner. In the past, if animals were sick, they had to be sent to medical facilities to be checked. With the new device, however, things will be much easier.

Zhang Zhihua, Taipei Zoo veterinarian, said, "We have many big animals here. It was very inconvenient to take them to the hospital."

Taipei University Hospital says there are currently no faultage scanner records for pandas in the medical data base. Officials hope the device will help with medical research on the animals.

Tuantuan and Yuanyuan flew to the island from Sichuan at the end of 2008. They made their zoo debut a month later, during the 2009 Spring Festival. The duo has since brought joy and laughter to Taiwan residents, while increasing the bond between people on both sides of the strait.
