Police have identified the suspect who allegedly killed three people and wounded three others in a shooting in Auburn, Alabama.

The shootings took place late on Saturday at an off-campus apartment complex. The victims included two former Auburn University football players. The local police chief, Tommy Dawson, identified the suspect on Sunday as 22-year old Desmonte Leonard of Montgomery.

Authorities believe the killings occurred after gunfire erupted during a fight at a party. Dawson added his condolences to the victim’s families and said a manhunt was underway. Two other people are being sought for questioning, but their identities have not been released.

Auburn police chief Tommy Dawson said, "I’m saddened by this. This is very much an unusual event for the city of Auburn, and Auburn University. It’s sickening that these young lives were cut short, and, and also the shooter is such a young man. As a society, we’ve got to learn the value of life again. If I could bring them back today to their parents, I would. Fortunately, I can’t do that. And to the parents and families of these victims, I am very sorry. Please let it be known, we are grieving with you".
