Location: Midway Atoll, an unincorporated area of U.S.

Countries: Japan vs. United States

Aircraft carriers: Japan: 4 fleet carriers (Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu and Soryu) vs U.S.: 3 fleet carriers (USS Yorktown, Enterprise and Hornet)

Result: The battle is widely regarded as the most important naval battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. It proved to be a decisive victory of U.S. navy, while the Imperial Japanese Navy lost its all four fleet carriers.
