The 36-year-old lawyer has represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former Ukraine Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
Born in Beirut, Alamuddin is a London-based barrister and fluent in French, English and Arabic. She has also worked as an adviser to former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, now a special envoy of the UN and the Arab League on Syria, and to a UN inquiry into the use of drones, The Independent said.
"George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key, but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem," a source told People magazine.
"I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever."
Clooney's representative Stan Rosenfield declined to comment on the reports.
Clooney, the 52-year-old Oscar winner, was married to actress Talia Balsam in 1989 and they broke up in 1993. After that, he vowed he would never marry again.
Since then, Clooney has dated a number of celebrities including Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, British model Lisa Snowdon and former American professional wrestler and model Stacy Keibler.
