A man was killed and two soldiers were injured in two explosions Monday in Russia's turbulent southern republic of Chechnya, RIA Novosti news agency reported Tuesday.

Fragments of the body of an unidentified man were found on Monday near a crater left by a blast in Vedeno district, a local police officer said.

In a separate explosion, two contract soldiers were injured in Urus-Martan district Monday night.

A helicopter that arrived to pick up the injured came through gunfire attack, but no casualties were reported.

The North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, along with neighboring Dagestan and Ingushetia, has seen an upsurge of militant violence in recent months, with attacks on police and officials being reported almost daily.
