China and Brazil Wednesday pledged to deepen exchanges and cooperation to move ahead their strategic partnership.

It was of great practical significance for China and Brazil, as two large and influential developing nations, to enhance dialogue and cooperation, said Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping.

Meeting with visiting Brazilian Defense Minister Nelson Jobim, Xi said China would like to work with Brazil to expand cooperation and further the strategic partnership.

Military exchanges and cooperation contributed to mutual strategic trust and the strategic partnership, Xi said.

Jobim said Brazil and China cooperated closely in international affairs, and he hoped the two countries and militaries would strengthen coordination for a new international political and economic order.

China and Brazil forged diplomatic relations in 1974 and established the strategic partnership in 1993.
