Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrives in Lebanon on Monday, embarking on a regional tour to lobby support for an international recognition of a statehood.

"The tour comes as Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) exerts efforts to go to the Security Council to issue a resolution demarking the borders of the (future) Palestinian state," said Nabil Abu Rdineh, Abbas's spokesman.

During his regional tour, Abbas is also scheduled to visit Egypt, Jordan and Qatar, Abu Rdineh told Voice of Palestine radio.

"The region passes through a dangerous turning point and Abbas will focus on the fate of the peace process, the Israeli rigidity and the international community's failure to put pressure on Israel to stop settlement," Abu Rdineh added.

The peace talks stopped since the end of 2008 and efforts to revive them have been failed due to the continuation of Jewish settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the two territories that alongside Gaza -- would be the future Palestinian state.

Earlier, Abbas visited Latin America countries to convince their support to the Palestinian demand for recognizing their state at the UN Security Council.
