Top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Il received a personal letter from U.S. President Barack Obama during a U.S. envoy's trip to Pyongyang early this month, the official KCNA said Friday.

The letter was conveyed to Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, on Dec. 9 by Stephen Bosworth, U.S. special representative for DPRK policy who visited the DPRK early this month, the report said.

Bosworth traveled to Pyongyang on Dec. 8 in a bid to revive the stalled six-way nuclear talks.
