Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi spoke highly of the London Conference on Afghanistan concluded on Thursday with security, economic development and governance topping the agenda.

"After a wide range of discussions, the participants agreed what the international community can do to help the government and people of Afghanistan to achieve social stability, economic development and well-being," Yang said in a news briefing.

Yang emphasized that the future of Afghanistan should be decided by the Afghan people. As the results of the meeting have not been realized, the international community has a long way to go, he added.

Yang said China will continue providing the Afghan government and the Afghan people with various assistance, including funds, personnel training and setting up joint ventures in Afghanistan.

The more important is that the international community should make contributions to the reconciliation, security, economic development and social progress, he noted.

Representatives from over 70 countries and international organizations gathered here to fully align military and civilian resources behind an Afghan-led political strategy.
