Following revelations by recently arrested Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Salman Ahmed, fresh terror alerts have been issued across three metropolitan cities of India, said offical sources Tuesday.
During his interrogation to Delhi police, arrested Indian Mujahideen operative Salman has revealed that IM planned to strike major cities of Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore recently, said highly placed sources in the defense and home ministries.
The revelation has led the Home Ministry to issue fresh alerts asking agencies to beef up security in all three cities, said the sources.
Meanwhile, police in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have also collected intelligence reports that the Indian Mujahideen planned to strike major cities of India.
Salman Ahmed is believed to be part of the group that carried out blasts in Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Gorakhpur and Varanasi between 2007 and 2008.
Salman traveled to Dubai, Karachi and Nepal in the past few years and was in regular touch with Riyaz Bhatkal, the man believed to be the head on Indian Mujahideen, sources said.
Bhtakal is also suspected to be the mastermind of the German Backery blast in Pune and investigators believe Salman's confession could lead them to find conspirators of the blast in Pune last month, said the sources.
Salman will now be interrogated and his confessions matched with another arrested IM operative Shehzad to piece together the terror plan that Indian Mujahideen was allegedly hatching, said the sources.
