A woman was indicted for planning to recruit Jihadist fighters and to commit murder overseas, according to a document released by U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday.

Colleen LaRose, also known as "Jihad Jane," was charged with " conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, making false statements to a government official and attempted identity theft," said the document.

LaRose, 47, a resident of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, was accused with five unindicted co-conspirators of recruiting men on the Internet to wage violent jihad in South Asia and Europe.

She was also charged with agreeing to kill a Swedish citizen on orders from the terrorists.

If convicted, LaRose would face a potential sentence of life in prison and a one million dollars fine, said the document.

"Today's indictment, which alleges that a woman from suburban America agreed to carry out murder overseas and to provide material support to terrorists, underscores the evolving nature of the threat we face," said David Kris, Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division.

"This case shows the use terrorists can and do make of the Internet," said Michael Levy, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Apart from recruiting fighters online, LaRose and her co- conspirators used the Internet to establish relationships and to communicate with one another, according to the document.
