According to the temporary voting results released by the Austrian Interior Ministry on Sunday, incumbent Austrian President Heinz Fischer has won the presidential election with around 78.9 percent of the vote.

He will soon start his second term for 6 years.

The president beat Barbara Rosenkranz from the Freedom Party of Austria and Rudolf Gehring from the Christian Party to win the election.

The presidential election 2010 is the 12th presidential election after the Austrian civil war. The eligible voting age this time has been changed from 18 to 16 after the alteration of the election law, and there were a total of 6.35 million voters, 325,000 more than in the 2004 election.

According to a report of the Austrian News Agency on Sunday evening, the voter turnout for this year's presidential election was around 49.2 percent, the lowest in history since the Austrian civil war.

Fischer was born on Oct. 9, 1938. He has a doctor's degree in political science and is a member of the Social Democratic Party.

Fischer became a member of the Austrian parliament in 1971. From 1990 to 2002, he served as presiding officer of the Austrian parliament. He won the presidential election in April 2004, and was sworn into office in July.

According to a recent survey, Fischer was the most popular politician in Austria. He visited China in 1984, 1992, 1997 and 2010.

Reports said that Fischer likes jazz and sports such as mountain climbing. He is married to Margit Fischer since 1968, with a daughter and a son.
