Pakistan's former president Pervez Musharraf said on Thursday he planned to return to Pakistan and re-enter politics, media reported.

"I certainly am planning to go back to Pakistan and also join politics. The question already of whether I am running for president or prime minister will be seen later," he told CNN in an interview.

Musharraf took power in a bloodless coup in 1999 after dismissing the elected government of then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

He ended his decade-long rule and resigned as president in August 2008 amid threats of impeachment.
