The Thai government on Sunday decided to extend curfew imposed in Bangkok and 23 other provinces to Monday, but the length of time each day for curfew is shortened.

The curfew will prohibit people from leaving home from 11 pm to 4 am. Earlier, the curfew was imposed from 9 pm to 5 am.

If anyone breaks the rule, he or she will be jailed for two years or fined 40,000 baht (about 1230 U.S. dollars) or be punished both, according to a statement released by the Center for Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) on Sunday afternoon.

Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the CRES spokesman, said the curfew period was shortened to minimize the impact on the people who have to travel.

The CRES will review on Tuesday whether to extend the curfew, the spokesman said.
