A top commander of Pakistani Taliban militants Mawlana Fazul Raman was killed in Afghanistan's eastern Nuristan province, a police officer said Thursday.

"Mawlana Fazul Rahman was killed during a clash with police in Barg-e-Matal district on Wednesday," the officer told Xinhua but declined to be identified.

Afghan Interior Ministry has yet to make a comment.

Couple of days ago, Afghan media reported that some 300 Pakistani Taliban fighters under Mawlana Fazul Rahman raided Barg- e-Matal district in Nuristan province.

"The armed rebels carried out a failed attack on Barg-e-Matal district on Tuesday which left seven insurgents dead," a statement of Afghan Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
