Syria calls for AL emergency meeting to discuss Israel's attack

Syria on Monday called for an emergency meeting of Arab League to discuss Israel's blockade on Gaza-bound aid ships "Freedom Fleet", the official SANA news agency reported.

Israel's navy which controls Gaza's territorial waters opened fire on the international pro-Palestinian aid flotilla when the fleet trying to enter the Gaza waters.

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists, including the Israeli- Arab Islamic activist Sheikh Raed Sallah were onboard the flotilla. 16 people were killed and 30 others wounded by the Israeli navy.

The Palestinian territory has been under Israeli blockade for almost three years, with only limited humanitarian aid allowed in.
