Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday strongly condemned the Israeli raid against the human rights activists on board Flotilla of six aid ships and called for formation of a global front to lift Gaza siege, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a telephone conversation with the Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, according to the report.

Ahmadinejad voiced Iran's solidarity with the Palestinian nation and said the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to back the Palestinian nation and its true supporters, according to IRNA.

"These inhuman crimes once again revealed the criminal nature of the (Israeli) regime to world nations," he was quoted as saying.

Ismail Haniyeh, for his part, thanked the Islamic Republic for its support for the cause of Palestine, said IRNA.

International bodies should condemn these crimes and help the Palestinian nation vindicate their legitimate rights as soon as possible, Haniyeh said.

"We should try to help restore the rights of Palestinian nation and break Gaza blockade," Haniyeh was quoted as saying.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Tuesday that the West must be responsible for the Israeli attack on the Gaza-bound aid convoy due to its supports for Israel, the local satellite Press TV reported.

Early Monday morning, Israeli forces launched an attack on the aid fleet en route to the besieged Gaza Strip, killing at least 19 people and leaving scores injured.
