Death toll from Typhoon Conson in Philippines rises to 65

The death toll from the typhoon Conson has increased to 65 as reports from the field offices across the Philippines continue to trickle in, National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Saturday afternoon.

The latest death toll, based on a statement released by the NDCC at 3 p.m., is 12 more than that of early Saturday morning.

Thirty-eight of the deaths were recorded in Southern Tagalog, followed by Central Luzon with 16 and Bicol region with 11.

Eighty-seven remain missing, 47 of whom are from Bicol region. Thirty others have been reported injured.

Meanwhile, at least 46,647 families or 231,620 persons were already reported to have been affected by Basyang. However, only 519 families or 2,656 persons are inside evacuation centers where they are attended by relief workers.

A total of 1.6 million pesos (3.46 million U.S. dollars) worth of assistance had been so far rendered by various government agencies to the victims, the NDCC said.

Damage to agriculture and infrastructure were placed at 73.4 million pesos and 144.6 million pesos respectively.
