Afghanistan hopes to deepen cooperation with China

Afghan President Hamid Karzai told Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Kabul Tuesday that his country hopes to advance its comprehensive cooperation with China.

"China is Afghanistan's good neighbor, good friend and good partner. The Afghan side deeply appreciates China's contribution to Afghanistan's reconstruction," Karzai said.

The president added that he thought China has played a positive and constructive role in dealing with regional and international affairs.

He said Afghanistan will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and strengthen political mutual trust.

He welcomed China's enterprises to do business in Afghanistan and expects to advance cooperate with China in international issues such as combating terrorism.

Yang said China would like to maintain high-level exchanges with Afghanistan, deepen political links, and enhance cooperation in affairs of each other's major concerns.

China will continue to respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan and support its efforts to realize peace, stability and economic development, Yang said.

He added that China will keep providing support and assistance to the country's reconstruction.

Yang arrived in Kabul to attend the first ever international conference hosted by post-Taliban Afghanistan to renew support to the war-torn country.
