SCO kicks off live-ammunition anti-terror exercises

With three red signal flares shot into the sky, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries launched live-ammunition exercises of the "Peace Mission 2010" anti-terror drill on Friday.
The drill has drawn 5,000 troops from five of the six SCO member states -- China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
Defense ministers of the five countries were on the spot to watch the exercises.
At 11:00 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), the exercises formally started.
Over 100 pieces of artillery fired shots with extremely loud sound, and a hail of shells were dropped onto the battlefield of the "enemies," completely destroying targets.
Two H-6H bombers of China, under the escort of two J-10 fighter jets, poured hundreds of kg of bombs from a height of 700 meters toward the "enemy" targets.
The besieged armed "terrorists" apparently were determined to fight to the bitter end.
The commanding headquarters decided special forces should be airdropped onto the battlefield to hunt down the "terrorists" hiding in residential areas.
A total of 96 special force combatants leapt onto the ground from a Mi-26 helicopter, which has the world's biggest transport capacity, surrounded the residential areas, and launched attacks against the "terrorists."
The coordinated action and joint operation between the special force groups of the five countries fully showed the anti-terror cooperation between SCO members has developed from strategic and campaign levels to a tactics level.
The "terrorists" suffering a heavy blow attempted to flee to border regions.
In the blue sky, escorted by Russia's two MiG-29 fighter planes, two Chinese H-6H bombers dropped a barrage of bombs toward the "terrorists."
The "terrorists" were harnessed in the "web" woven by air and ground forces of the SCO members.
"Peace Mission 2010," the seventh joint drill of its kind within the framework of the SCO, runs from Sept. 9 to 25.
