At least five people were killed in a U.S. drone attack launched Wednesday evening in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of North Waziristan, reported local TV channels.

According to the reports, the U.S. drone fired two missiles at a target in Miranshah of North Waziristan, a tribal area in Pakistan, which borders Afghanistan.

Details about the killed are not immediately available.

Two days ago, on Monday, the U.S. drones fired four missiles at a house of a local militant leader, reportedly killing nine people including eight German nationals.

North Waziristan is believed to be a stronghold of militants in Pakistan. The United States has been seeking for a ground military operation in the afore-mentioned area from the Pakistani side. But Pakistan, though an ally of the United States and NATO in wars against terrorism, has been cautious in giving a go-ahead to the US side due to fears of opposition within the country and fierce retaliation by militants.

Under this scenario, the US has no choice but using unmanned drones to fight against the militants hiding within the Pakistani territory, who has frequently launched attacks on the NATO troops in Afghanistan across the border. Despite the opposition on lips over the U.S. drone's violation of its territory right, the Pakistani government has kept a closed eye on the issue.
