Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan Tuesday called for joint efforts from China and the United States to safeguard bilateral ties so as to bring benefits to the two peoples.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with Max Baucus, chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.

China and the United States should take a long term perspective on the current situation and take their differences in stage of development and structure into full consideration, Wang said.

Wang also said the two sides should enhance communication and increase mutual understanding, and use their wisdom to properly handle differences and avoid economic issues being politicized.

Enhancing Sino-U.S. trade and economic cooperation is critical for promoting the economic recovery of the two countries and the world, he said.

Baucus said he hopes to advance contact with China to push forward the healthy development of the bilateral relationship.

According to Baucus's official website, he is paying the visit to China to explore ways to open new markets for the U.S. state of Montana.
